The king

Akhenaten leans forward slightly, holding a stela that probably once bore the names of the sun god Aten. The hieroglyphs, which were painted, have long since disappeared. The king is central to worship of the Aten acting as an intermediary between the people and the God. Only he and the royal family are ever depicted worshipping the Aten directly, the people worship the king..
