Nefertiti - Power and Beauty

Nefertiti, whose name means "The beautiful one is come," was Akhenaten's principal wife. She played a major role in his new religious practices and in affairs of state, she may even have been a pharaoh herself - a power behind the throne as well as a legendary beauty. This graceful, almost-finished portrait is the work of a master sculptor. Black lines on the ears, forehead, and neck are guides for further carving. The projection at the top would have supported the queen's tall, blue crown.
